Strandzha Mountain
Strandzha Mountain is a very extraordinary mountain that extends through the territories of two countries: Bulgaria and its southeastern neighbor Turkey. The Bulgarian fraction of the mountain called Bosna is situated in southeastern Bulgaria. It is in fact the lowest part of Strandzha Mountain and extends horizontally from Kervansaray summit (632m) to the east to Black Sea to the west, between the rivers Veleka and Fakiiska. To the south Bosna reaches the national border with Turkey where Strandzha Mountain grows into its southern biggest and highest section.
On Bulgarian territories the relief of the mountain is dominated by hills and low elevations. Bosna’s ridge is rounded with highest summits Papia (502m) and Bosna (454m). The numerous rivers that pass through Strandzha’s territory, the most widely-known of which Veleka, Rezovska, Ropotamo, and Fakiiska, have brought about amazing natural formations such as beautiful river meanders and gorges. From a cultural point of view Strandzha Mountain is also very significant. It is strewn with multiple archaeological and historican monuments dating back to ancient Thracian, Byzantine, Roman, and Ottoman times. There are small villages, such as Brashlian, declared architectural reservations. Therefore, despite Strandzha’s small height, the tourist opportunities the mountain offers its visitors are more than astonishing.
