Water tourism

Bulgarian nature offers to outdoor lovers wonderful possibilities to practice water tourism. There are dozens of rivers and dams along which, throughout the entire year, water tourism can be practiced. This is an exciting form of active relaxation, which can be enjoyed by people of different ages. The variety of proposed routes and the application of many skills and qualities make trips exceptionally attractive. The daily rowing, swimming and fishing, staying at a different place every night, and making new friends make this type a tourism a very exciting and intriguing experience. By the end of the 19th century boat rowing in Bulgaria had started to attract tourists. In 1889, the first oar-gymnastic society LEBED was established. During subsequent years water tourism became an integral part of the general system of Bulgarian tourism and the federation of water tourism was created.

River Marches

Presently, marches along many of Bulgaria's rivers (Iskyr, Ogosta, Yantra, Vit, Osym, Struma, Maritsa, Tundzha, Arda and others) are organized, as well as participation in the international water march along the river Danube - TID (Tourist International Danube). Marches on the many Bulgarian dams are sometimes even more interesting. The majority of dams offer access to exceptionally picturesque places and breathtaking views. The possibility to combine marches on rivers and dams with the pedestrian passages near dams makes this form of tourism ever more attractive. It allows you to touch and feel like a part of the surrounding beauty of Bulgarian nature.

River Adventures

There are some travel companies in Bulgaria which organise water tours with kayaks along the bulgarian rivers and dams. Water tourism offers the possibility to touch the nature in a slightly different way. This is a way to fully enjoy the wonderful nature along the water routes and to feel the pleasure in the harmony between the physical load phsychological rest. For the fans of extreme sports river adventures include rafting - going downstream with big, specially designed for white water, boats.
